In Conversation With… Vinay Dessai, Founder, Fairytale Events
Can you help us know about your professional background?
I have a Bachelors Degree in Hospitality and Post Graduation in Management. I started my career with hospitality and customer service management. I moved on to handle South India for world’s biggest certifications body in hospitality sector audits and then started with Fairytale Events and Hospitality.
How do you view the competition in the industry/niche that you operate in?
In the niche that I operate in within the industry, there is limited competition. But the industry as a whole has a lot of competition with both long time major players and the small ones looking for the same customers in the event business.
Can you please tell us about your venture ‘Fairytale Events’?
Fairytale Events, a Goa-based company, is an attempt to bring celebrations in the simplest possible way. The celebrations as we call it are in two separate categories:
- Fairytale Weddings focuses on budget destination weddings in Goa, where pricing is the key. Our packages start from INR10 lakh.
- Fairytale Mini Celebrations are all inclusive Goa packages for celebrations like birthdays, engagements, etc.
What is your approach to identify business opportunities?
Traditionally, we get work through references and word-of-mouth publicity, considering our operations aren’t that big. But in the future, we intend to explore other means.
What is one best thing about your venture?
Personally for me, it is the satisfaction that I get seeing the smiles on the faces of our guests.
To our stakeholders and customers it is the possibility to make their fairytales come true.
As an entrepreneur you must be having a lot of pressure and stress. What works best for you to handle the pressure and stress?
Pressure and stress are a part of these businesses, but if you trust your team and know that you can bank on them, I believe a lot is already worked out.
Also, I believe your team should have the tools and resources to get things done; as a business manager that’s your priority and everything will fall in place.
What was the feeling like when you got the first client appreciation for your venture?
Oh God! it was good. It really feels it’s worth to leave the job security. The feeling of pride and the boost to self-confidence is something that I cannot put into words.
How do you encourage your team to achieve outstanding results?
It’s simple. Make them believe that they can do it. That’s it.
What is the best moment in your professional journey so far?
There are a lot of great moments. But the best one was when the first wedding organized by us was concluded with praises from the guests that arrived at the wedding.
