In Conversation With… Nikhil Malankar, Founder & CEO, GameEon
Can you please help us know your professional background?
I come from a technical background; I pursued engineering and started my career in e-game development by founding my own studio. I also worked as a Tech Lead in one of the e-gaming companies based in Mumbai and have worked with many brands and clients to develop e-games for them. I also own a YouTube channel, where I talk about e-games and e-game development which has amassed over 50,000+ subscribers.
Can you please tell us about your venture ‘GameEon’?
GameEon is an e-game development and publishing studio based in Mumbai. It was founded in 2013.
What is your business model/ revenue model?
We are currently developing our own e-games and our primary business model is freemium wherein we earn from ads and offer in-app purchases in our e-games. We are also working on a big scale project titled Mumbai Gullies which will be an open world e-game based in Mumbai city.
How do you view the competition in the industry/niche that you operate in?
The competition is intense as well as very friendly. Everyone in the e-gaming industry is actually helping each other grow and that is a really positive aspect I observe about this industry in India.
What impact did covid-19 pandemic have on your business? How do you plan to overcome it?
The covid-19 pandemic has actually had a positive impact on the e-gaming industry. People sitting at home had more time on their hands due to which the e-gaming industry grew exponentially.
In today’s time, as the teams work virtually, how do you manage to maintain the work culture and employee engagement?
During the lockdown times we used to coordinate with each other using scheduled Google Meet calls and I personally made sure to speak with everyone and stay in touch.
What is your vision for your venture ‘GameEon’ in the long run?
As mentioned earlier, the long term vision for GameEon is the open world game that we are working on. This game would offer players an authentic experience of Mumbai city to play and would serve as a great quality standard for times ahead. That is the vision and dream with GameEon.
As an entrepreneur you must be having a lot of pressure and stress. What works best for you to handle the pressure and stress?
Stress and pressure is a part and parcel of life. Developing a positive and pragmatic approach to problems has helped me sustain through it all.
