In Conversation With… Vandana Tolani, Founder & CEO, Convanto

Can you please help us know your professional background?

I have worked in Singapore and Jakarta for 15 years in investment banking. This is my sixth year back in India in investment banking. I run my own firm out of  We Work Gurgaon. I am connected with 175 investors globally that include PE, VCs, Angels and HNIs.

Journey has been very enjoyable and interesting until now. But it takes a lot of perseverance, patience and hard work as well.

Please help us know about your venture ‘Convanto’

Convanto, a boutique Investment Banking firm is focused on fundraising and consulting early stage start-ups. Over the years, at Convanto we have executed fund raising assignments for numerous Fin-Tech, B2B Tech and Direct to consumer start-ups.

We help in M&A’s Business Consulting, Fund Raising, Growth Strategies , Pitch deck making, Financial modelling and mentoring.

We have a new segment in Digital Marketing headed by my daughter Muktee. In this segment we offer web designing, social media posting and graphic designing.

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

I never wanted to work under someone; I want to work for myself. I wanted to create my own projects , and I didn’t want to be boxed in ,hence I chose it this way.

Also, being a working mother, I wanted to be around my kids and manage work at both ends.

What is your business/ revenue model?

We are a boutique investment bank. Helping companies with Pitch deck making, Financial Modelling, Business Models.  Primary core is to help companies raise funds, we also help with M&A and Business consulting. Please always look at our social media pages for regular updates.

How are you planning to scale up your business? Where shall the next phase of growth come from?

I wish to do some Series B, C, D deals and connect with some women fund houses and start ups 🙂

What is your vision for ‘Convanto’ in the long run, say maybe 10 – 15 years from now?

Convanto should be in the top five investment banking companies list.  Convanto would be giving back to society by then, especially to women and young entrepreneurs. Convanto would be on the Forbes list as well by then hopefully.

What are the core values of ‘Convanto’?

Hard Work

and most important of all – being humble

What is your approach to identify business opportunities?

Listening to my clients as to what they are saying. Valuable client  inputs help me to identity business opportunities and to expand my business. I really don’t have to approach or search for leads and referrals; it just happens that people keep reaching out and referring me for the good work. So I am humbled and grateful for that.

What impact did covid-19 pandemic have on your business? How do you plan to overcome it?

I was hit by stuck payments and stuck work and income slowed down and had lots on my plate.  I just believed in myself and tried to have faith that things would work out and the Universe helped in many ways,  I have overcome larger storms in my life so I knew we would overcome this too.  One needs to give gratitude to the universe and keep the faith to overcome any challenges.
